This basin might appear to be a single slab of stone, or a one-of-a-kind, hand-crafted Brutalist sculpture that uses the textures and contrasts of the material to emphasize the architecture of the bathroom. On the contrary, it is the result of an industrial process using the fiber-reinforced concrete, a high-tech, ultra high-performance material used in the most advanced architecture, introduced to the bathroom by this project for the first time.
The ruggedness of the concrete heightens the expressive power of the structure, whose design code is embodied in the attenuated edge, just 1 cm thick. This is quite an advance over the possibilities offered by natural stone, which is difficult to work at such minimal thicknesses. The exceptional mechanical resistance of this cement-base composite makes it possible to create large forms that can remain very thin. Moreover, the material is mouldable and scratch-resistant, and its surface can be polished like marble, generating a play of light and volume.
The basin trap is hidden from view, and the planar bowl resolves in a slot drain, also in the ceramic version that is mounted beneath the concrete top.
The structure comes in various lengths (max 180 cm), with coordinated shelving in variable lengths and depths.
