Bios is a line of full body fully glazed porcelain stoneware tiles with remarkable antibacterial features obtained through an innovative manufacturing process based on the use of the latest generation of nanotechnologies. During the processing stages, the ceramic material paste is added with mineral particles generating an extremely effective antibacterial reaction.
Developed according to a research conducted by Casalgrande Padana in collaboration with the Department of Microbiology of the University of Modena, the product has undergone strict lab tests and proved to exceed the standards required by the relevant regulations, since it can lead to 99,9% reduction of the four main bacterial strains: Staphylococcus aureus, Enterococcus faecalis, Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa.
The bactericide action generated by the treatment described above remains unchanged in time and needs no light to be activated, whereas in case of humidity its beneficial effects are strengthened.
These results have been documented and certified by the University of Modena and show the extraordinary potential applications of the product in all fields calling for high standards in terms of hygiene, cleanliness, safety and easy maintenance, e.g.: health structures, research labs, crèches, schools, swimming pools, sports facilities, spas, changing rooms, closets, home and restaurant kitchens, canteens, restaurants, agricultural and food factories, etc.
Bios is available in all series of the Granitogres and Marmogres lines and may be also used in any other kind of housing structure where the technical features of the Casalgrande Padana porcelain stoneware need to be enhanced with the additional properties described above.
Also from the aesthetic and combinatory viewpoints, no limits emerge: finishes, colours and formats are selected according to the specific design needs and entail broad customisation opportunities. The Bios ceramic elements may be supplied in their natural, polished or glazed versions, since the antibacterial treatment involves the bodies and not only the surface of the tiles. Similarly, the colour palette and modular formats made available to designers – the same as the Granitogres and Marmogres lines – allow meeting any need.
The first application of Bios material took place in the new Centre for Regenerative Medicine in Modena, a structure specialising in the research on stem cells (see attached pictures).
