Ornament and decoration have etymologically two different meanings, but time and use made them almost synonyms, let understand for both “an additional embellishment to the structure”. From antiquity, architecture has rarely considered ornaments extraneous, feeling them as not integrated part of its language. Ornaments often show and underline the essential structures, qualify the building and define it in its organicity. Vitruvio gave to decoration a place of honour (on condition that it weren’t excessive and useless opulence) because he recognized that order, placement, number, decoration and distribution of architectural elements have a decorative purpose.
ETRURIA design can’t get out of analyzing a decorative concept that supports the wide range of bevelled wall tile, giving them an added value. One year ago, in the issue nr. 10, our magazine PIX explored the role of decoration in modern architecture.
Two different decorative developments are spawned: TEXTURE and DECOR.
TEXTURE. Straight lines come out of the surface thanks to their tridimensionality and spread in all directions. Geometric decorations intersect with light and shadow games, creating a multiple decorative effect. The use of plain colours let the ornament to be the protagonist.
Beside the formal decoration of Texture, DECOR develops a merely figurative decoration, based on graphic design. From the skilled hand of decorators, designs freely inspired to wall decorations and floral ornaments spread in all the colours of the range, creating new classic atmosphere.
All the 35 lux (glossy) and 32 silk (mat) colours of the range are available in the TEXTURE and DECOR collections, leaving free play to architects and designers’ imagination and creativity.
