The concept
Natural source, inextricably linked to the Land and the ground: ROD, the line of bathroom fittings designed by Marco Zito for Ponsi, is inspired by the idea of water as an element to search and seek, as the origin of life.
The forms are taken from the wooden stick used by the dowser to find water underground. An almost magic gesture, dedicated to the most vital element and at the same time most natural, like the natural growth of branches in a tree.
Taking up the node tree-branch of the stick, ROD takes shape emphasizing the natural movement of the search towards the source. Continuous and smooth forms allow a simple and intuitive relationship with all the elements of the line ROD.
The surfaces, carefully assembled for an easy maintenance and cleaning of the taps, are the result of careful observation of the production process. The tradition of Ponsi was a central element of the project, which took into account all stages of production: casting, cleaning, polishing and finishing.
ROD is the first result of the cooperation between Marco Zito and Ponsi. A collaboration orientated towards a formal and functional innovation, which wants to strengthen the attention that historically Ponsi has always turned towards projects and technical details of its products.
The entire line ROD is designed also to limit water consumption, while ensuring high jet performances (about 7lt/min to 2 bar - washbasin and bidet).

Rod, tree questions to the designer Marco Zito
1. ROD is the first result of the cooperation with Ponsi; a collaboration orientated towards a formal and functional innovation. How much the two components led to its conception and in which way have you wanted them to interact? They are the main elements of the project, it is clear that formal innovation is the result of the functional research of the product. The “plasticity” of the object suggests a coherent use of the entire line.
2. The attention to technical details is part of the history of Ponsi. In this way, which are the peculiarities you wanted in order to characterize the line ROD? The technical detail Ponsi tells a long story made of the highest professionalism. We let ourselves be guided by these values that have found a natural evolution in the project.

Yes, there is an emotional part in every project, however I would not it overbear the real value of the object.
